Web Sites for Educatorshttp://www.workplacebasicskills.com A WEB site funded by the U.S. Department of Education and developed by the Conference Board of Canada containing workplace basic skills information, tools and advice for employers. http://online.onetcenter.org/ O*NET, the Occupational Information Network, is a comprehensive database of worker attributes and job characteristics. As the replacement for the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT), O*NET will be the nation's primary source of occupational information. O*NET is being developed as a timely, easy-to-use resource that supports public and private sector efforts to identify and develop the skills of the American workforce. It provides a common language for defining and describing occupations. http://www.pro-net2000.org/ PRO-NET 2000, is an adult education professional development project funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE). This three-year project, builds on the professional development activities supported by OVAE over the past 10 years and provides general information related to professional development, monitored discussion threads, regional communities, and an area for "field input." http://www.ed.psu.edu/nwac The U.S. Department of Labor established the National Workforce Assistance Collaborative (NWAC) in 1993 through a cooperative agreement with the National Alliance of Business (NAB) and its partners. This WEB site provides links to resources on workforce development in four key areas: workplace literacy, employee training, work restructuring, and labor-management relations. The ERIC Clearinghouse on Adult, Career, and Vocational Education (ERIC/ACVE) a national education information network, is part of the National Library of Education, U.S. Department of Education. The goal of ERIC is to identify. select, process, and disseminate information in education. http://www.doleta.gov/ The Employment and Training Administration seeks to build up the labor market through the training of the workforce and the placement of workers in jobs through employment services. This Web site is designed to direct adults, youth, dislocated workers, and workforce development professionals to information on these programs and services. Employers will find information on several areas, including tax credits and other hiring incentives, how to find and train employees, assistance with plant closures and downsizing, legislation text, and ETA grants and contracts. It also provides the most current ETA solicitation for grant applications (SCA) and requests for proposals. http://www.ed.psu.edu/isal/ Site for the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy whose mission stresses the importance of connecting research to improving practice; each research project results in a practical application in the field, including staff development activities, curriculum and instructional materials development, policy recommendations, and dissemination of research findings through Institute publications, professional publications, and presentations.
