The Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning (TCALL) is announcing $100,000 of new fellowships for the 2007-2008 academic year, The Barbara Bush Fellowships. Applications are due March 5. For more information, contact Dominique Chlup, 979.845.6615, dchlup@tamu.edu.
Dominique Chlup, director of TCALL, said each fellowship will consist of a one-year award and will be available for doctoral students willing to conduct research in the area of family literacy.
"This fellowship presents a fantastic opportunity for a young scholar," Chlup said. "All doctoral students at the university regardless of field are encouraged to apply for the fellowship. Students do not have to be currently working on family literacy projects; they just need a willingness to do research in the field of family literacy."
Depending on the applicant pool, Chlup said students could be awarded anywhere from $25,000 to $50,000. Recipients will be announced at the 2007 Houston Celebration of Reading on April 26, 2007. The event is an annual fundraiser hosted by former President George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush that hosts best-selling authors who read aloud from their books.
Applications are due March 5, 2007. For further information, fellowship guidelines and the application packet, visit the TCALL website at www-tcall.tamu.edu.
