TCALL Fellows Reception
November 7, 2006

Stacy Perry and Corrine Wickens, doctoral students at Texas A&M University, were honored as research fellows at the Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning (TCALL) reception on November 7, 2006.  Stacy Perry, an adult education doctoral candidate at Texas A&M and senior principal of human resources at Jefferson Wells International in Dallas, will focus her research on the study of adult educators in Texas who work with corrections education. She will conduct a survey to determine what resources are needed for their adult LD learners. Corrine Wickens, a doctoral student in the teaching, learning and culture department, will focus her research on intergenerational reading difficulties as they impact motivation for reading and learning. She will conduct case study examinations of families that include parents and children who demonstrate trouble with reading, and investigate how that affects the child's literacy development as well as the overall family dynamics.  In its second year, the TCALL Research Fellows provides monetary support and guidance to doctoral students with an interest in adult learning and literacy.

Dominique Chlup, director of TCALL, used her experiences as a Fellow at the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) to create the TCALL Research Fellows.  "I was so grateful for my time as a NCSALL Fellow that I wanted others to have a similar opportunity," Chlup said. "We hope to continue to receive, annually, the fellowship funding to recruit other wonderful scholars interested in adult education and adult literacy/family literacy to Texas A&M."
