Credential Model CREDITS

The Texas Adult Education Credential Model is the outcome of a three-year Adult Education Credential Project conducted by the Texas State University The Education Institute (TEI). The main objective of the project was to study the nature of the adult education workforce and to propose a credentialing process that would support the field. The GREAT Centers have been asked to develop a plan for implementation of the Texas Adult Education Credential Model within their regions.

Participation in the Credential Model is voluntary. Teachers who desire to seek the Adult Education Credential must complete at least 125 points assigned to six different content areas:

Content Area Points
Principles of Adult Learning

The Teaching-Learning Transaction with Adult Students
30
Diverse Learning Styles, Abilities and Cultures
20
Integrating Technology into Adult Learning

Each content area is assigned a minimum number of points which the teacher must acquire in order to be eligible for the credential. Teachers may accrue points by participating in various activities that might include a combination of the following:

  • attendance of an institute

  • online course
  • instructor observation
  • mentorship
  • study group

CREDITS will be maintained at TEA and interact with the Texas Educating Adults Management System (TEAMS) database. Educators selecting to pursue a credential must be a teacher in the Texas Educating Adults Management System (TEAMS).
