September 4-5, 2008: Training of Trainers: Principles of Participatory Education will be hosted by Literacy Texas at Austin Community College, Highland Business Center, 5930 Middle Fiskville Road, Room 411, Austin. The two-day event (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day) is intended to give teachers/literacy tutors, who have some experience working adult students, training in using the principles of participatory adult education in their training activities. Upon completion, participants receive certification to provide quality training for their organization. This Training of Trainers is a two-day workshop. The purpose of this training is to introduce participants to the key concepts of cross-cultural communication so they can more effectively interact with program participants from different cultural backgrounds. September 6, 2008: Guide for the GED Reader - Part 2: Strategies & Techniques for Building Fluency and Vocabulary Development Skills for the GED Reader will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the University of Houston Student Center, 4800 Calhoun St, Houston. September 11-12, 2008: EL Civics Institute will be held in McAllen from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11 and 9:00 am. - 3:00 p.m., September 12. This workshop, conducted by Dr. Heide Wrigley, will focus on activities that link classrooms and communities. There will be a technology component where teachers will be able to do a hands-on activity on laptop computers.
