May 1-2, 2008: Training of Trainers Principles of Participatory Education will be held at Student Support Services, Rm 809, 2909 N. Buckner, Dallas 75228 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This workshop is designed to teach prospective trainers how to use the principles of participatory adult education. The training will review the philosophies of participatory adult education and improve your performance of techniques and drills. May 3, 2008:BEST Pluswill be held at 1066 W. Magnolia, Ft Worth from 8:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Participants who successfully complete this certification process will be able to give both the computer adapted and print based version of this new oral proficiency test. This test was developed by the Center for Applied Linguistics. It is an individually administered face-to-face scripted oral interview designed to assess the English language Proficiency of adult English language learners. This test can be used for program placement, progress, program evaluation and diagnosis. BEST Plus scores can be converted to SPL descriptors that align with NRS Functioning Level Descriptors. May 15, 2008: Windows® XP® Advanced Management will be held from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the Kyle Learning Center, Saddle Creek Apartments, Kyle 78640. The workshop focuses on advanced searching, understanding file types and structures, using system maintenance tools, and preventing spyware and viruses. The trainer will be Denise Guckert. Participants should have attended the Central GREAT Windows® XP® File Management offered in February, 2008 OR have extensive experience organizing and searching for folders and files and using the control panel to customize XP settings. Writing - - Session 3: Assessing Students’ Writing.
Teachers who participate in this session will be able to: develop
an appropriate writing prompt that can be used to assess students’ writing
at the entry level; analyze the writing samples provided by their
students and identify errors in grammar, usage, and sentence
structure; and develop an individualized plan to assist students
in systematically improving their writing. This session will
be held on Friday from 4:30 pm -7:30 pm and on Saturday from
8:30 am - 3:30 pm at the Socorro Community Learning Center on
313 S. Rio Vista Rd., El Paso. This is the last of three workshops

Use” television series about ways to ensure children's educational

Low literacy has a tremendous impact on the workforce competitiveness of Texas and the problem is growing. May 30, 2008: Teaching the Principal Documents of American Democracy. This FREE Conference for Civics and Citizenship Teachers of Adults will be hosted in Houston by Texas LEARNS on behalf of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Participants will learn about the redesigned naturalization test, the naturalization process, the history and meaning of the principal documents of American democracy, and how to prepare students for naturalization interview and test.
