July 28 - August 1, 2008: Workforce Literacy Institute I: PreTransition-to-College Skills - This institute is designed to teach specific strategies and content that will help advanced ESL and GED students develop postsecondary writing and reading skills. This series of five (5) sessions will focus on: informational/process paragraph writing and reading, integrating grammar and language skills, and using a variety of career exploration and college culture reading material. Participants will practice teaching the strategy and then develop lesson plan content that can be used in their current classes. Training sessions will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. on all days and will be held at EPCC Literacy Program Center, 9050 Viscount, Building B. There is one follow up session scheduled for this academy: Sept. 26. Registration for this Academy is by invitation or requires prior approval from the GREAT Center.
